Fri, Jun 29, 2018 Crisis Line Updates – CISC Job Update, Volunteer Survey, and CL Binder Updates

Dear Crisis Line and OSA volunteers and interns,
I am overwhelmed with emotions as I inform you of my resignation from Middle Way House. It has been an unparalleled honor to have been your program coodinator these past two and a half years. Each and every one of you has taught me so much throughout my time with this agency, and I am forever grateful for all that you do to support our clients. The work to end violence and promote healing is far from over, but with each day we show up, is one more day towards progress.
When I reflect on my time here, I want to share the feedback that clients often give me. Whenever a client tells me how helpful MWH has been, it’s never about “they knew the answers to all my questions” or “they gave me all the resources I needed,” rather it’s “I didn’t feel so alone anymore,” “I felt like I could say anything and I wouldn’t be judged,” or “my OSA stayed with me the whole time, I couldn’t believe someone would care that much,” and from a long-time client “I finally believe that my anger is valid.”  People are not going to remember what you said as much as they will remember how you made them feel. And, what may seem like small gestures of kindess to you, are often the most powerful and impactful moments in another persons life. This is what you all give to our clients; and this is why your work here is invaluable. Thank you for doing that for our clients, and in doing so, also helping one another grow in support of our movement forward. As far as what to expect from the CI staff thoughout this transition, I will be out of town next week (July2-6), then I will work one more FT week (July 9-15), and beginning July 16th I will work 10 hours a week until July 31st. We have hired on a new staff member to fill Katelyn’s position, Stephanie Waller, and her first day will be July 9th. I will be sure to send an introduction email during her first week. Our incredible part-time CISs will all be maintaining their regular hours and schedules as well.

Fiesta del Otoño – Tabling Request for Volunteers!

Any volunteers who are interested in tabling for MWH at this event, we would love the help. We are particularly intersted in anyone who speaks Spanish. Please see the message below for information.

 

“This year the city of Bloomington will celebrate its 13th Annual Fiesta del Otoño on Saturday, September 15 from 10am-1pm at Showers Plaza City Hall 401 N Morton St.  In conjunction with the Bloomington Community Farmer’s Market.  This year’s theme for Fiesta del Otoño is “Celebrando Nuestras Raíces, Nuestra Herencia, Nuestra Fuerza – Celebrating Our Roots, Our Heritage, Our Strength”.

 

We invite organizations from the community to provide information about their organization to the Latino and Hispanic community.  Please respond to this email no later than Friday August 17th, if your organization is interested in participating in this exciting community event by hosting a resource table.  A table and two chairs will be provided.

Fiesta Del Otoño is a campus-community collaboration between the City of Bloomington Latino Program and Outreach Division and Indiana University’s Latino Enhancement Cooperative to celebrate the National Hispanic Heritage Month (NHHM).  NHHM is celebrated throughout the country in the months of September and October.  Fiesta del Otoño both educates and provides festive activities for all to enjoy and we encourage local organizations to show their support by hosting a resource table for the event.” – Josefa Luce

Updated CL Binders!

We have recently completed our updates for our Continuing Client binder as well as our Inappropriate or Abusive Callsbinder. Please feel free to see them in the CL office and familiarize yourself with the information. If anyone has any questions, or feels there should be a client added to one of the binders, please let a CI staff member know.

Crisis Line Online Resources!

We now have a working online folder of Crisis Line resources!! For those of you who prefer to pull things up on a computer when your helping a client, or prefer reading reminders online you can use the link below. 🙂 If you prefer hard copies, and using the binders in the office, don’t worry! This online folder is not meant to replace those resources, it’s just in addition! Let a CI staff member know if you have any questions.
